As my readers know, SurferQuest has released an interactive app this year for the hospitality industry that enables guests to access local dining, events, new, weather, boarding passes, flight status, tickets and interactive maps of the local area.
Today’s entry will be dedicated to the back ground of the program and how it is built, managed and customized.
Customization: building the interface
With the back end content manager and admin account, the interface can be built and customized to suit the needs of any location. The content is also easily controlled, allowing the admin to choose what is displayed and where it will appear.
The button placement, colors, size and style can all be built to suit. The program enables you to control visibility, active status, available button color, text color, border weight and even opacity of buttons.
The logo graphics or branding images are also controlled and customized through the admin account. You have control over placement, visibility and grid positioning.
The flight board plug in style allows for changes to back ground color, opacity, header text and colorization, border color and weight and corner radius. Additionally, the content can be controlled as well enabling you to choose whether to show arrivals and / or departures, input airport codes, show toggle buttons and customize visibility.
The travel board logo placement can be changed as well as the boarding pass printing button. The content can be customized and the icon can be changed completely if desired.
Interactive Maps: using Wayfinding Pro to provide navigation for the local area
This image is a static representation of the interactive mapping segment of SQ Link. SurferQuest has partnered with Wayfinding Pro to offer an interactive and convenient answer to traditional wayfinding, accessible through the link system.
The admin would use WFP to map the local area or desired areas to offer directions to, and the map would appear within the “Maps” button. Guests are able to view line and text directions, while also having access to a directory of popular destinations.

Every hotel caters to a variety of different guests. There are the vacationers – always leisurely and seeking concierge advice on the best spots to dine. There are the group stays – typically an athletic team of some sort residing in an entire wing of the hotel. Lastly are the business travelers. They seek quiet, efficiency and dependable business center services.
What do all of these guests have in common? They have traveled to be staying in your hotel.
SurferQuest has created an app to meet the needs of these guests, and to ensure they are able to access their travel info quickly and conveniently.
SQ Travel is based on SQ’s interactive digital signage app, SQ Link, but has been slimmed down to offer only the travel oriented content for guests. SQ Link provides guests with access to leisure info such as local dining, entertainment, internet browsing and interactive maps. But SQ Travel, was built specifically to cater to travel needs.
SQ Travel provides guests with access to their boarding passes and flight status. Its simple, clean and efficient. Just like travel should be. SQ Travel is also highly customizable enabling hotels to also offer news and weather plug ins, while also having control over interface colors, content placement and branding. The admin account allows for total content management and customization.
The flight status is live, and always up to date with the airports while the boarding pass access provides quick access to a guests pass with only segments of their information.

As mentioned in recent posts, SurferQuest has teamed up with Flight Time TV and Wayfinding Pro to offer a new interactive digital signage app. The program works like a concierge providing guests with boarding pass access, flight departure and arrival status, local events, entertainment, dining, transportation, weather, news, internet access and interactive maps of the area.
In addition to enabling hotels to offer a very convenient and beneficial service, the app also provides another source of revenue through advertising.
Local restaurants, stores, taxi services, bars and event venues will pay for the opportunity to be a featured / first choice in the search results of the app. Being displayed on the welcome screen or screen saver is another option for advertising, as well as scrolling top and bottom banners.
Any hotel using the interactive concierge will not be obligated to showing advertisements, but will have that option readily available. All revenue generated by local advertisements and feature ads belongs 100% to the hotel. The rates for ads are also completely dependent on what the hotel sees fit.
The program comes with a back end that enables content management, interface customization and the advertising segment.
The content that guests can access is easily updated with the back end. Content can be added to, removed or adjusted as new info is made available. There are also options for automatic updates.
Interface customization is completely in the hands of the hotel. Adding logos, changing button placement, adjusting colors and changing the default screen layout is simple and can be done anytime. The updates will immediately take effect on any machines that are selected within the program.
Advertising is also managed within the back end. Change banners, select which venues will be featured first within the search results and submit ads for display on the welcome screen or anywhere else space is available. As mentioned, the hotel keeps all revenue generated, and may set any rates they wish.
The interactive maps and routes are easily managed within the back end account as well. Bars come and go, eating establishments change. As the local area changes, the program can be updated with new directions and maps.
For a very low annual cost, the interactive concierge is a service that not only benefits guests, but hotels as well. No longer does hotel staff need to dedicate hours a day to giving directions and explaining maps. Line and text directions generated by the app give step by step routes to wherever a guest needs to go. No longer does the hotel staff need to constantly look up flight departure statuses or print boarding passes. The days of staff losing hours a day giving directions to restaurants and looking up open hours are long gone.
Guests now have a complete guide to the area at their fingertips. And hotels can generate revenue by providing a service that satisfies their guests. What isnt to like?
